There is a term I’m learning called ‘skinny-fat.’ These are women and men who are very thin but have very little lean muscle mass and a high body fat percentage. These are typically the bodies of runway models that the average American teenage girl wants to be a carbon copy of. These are the girls who, for all practical means and purposes, are emaciated and undernourished. Yet women everywhere are starving themselves and spending hours upon hours in the gym like a hamster on a wheel to look like this.
Below is a link to a video of the 2008 CrossFit Games. These women are in phenomenal shape. Look at how ripped they are! That is healthy, lean muscle mass that gives them strength, power and agility. This is functional strength training utilizing all muscle groups at the same time. This is the physique to strive for.
